A Blast competition honorable mention, PIGS GET BLASTED is the first refundable NFT collection on the Blast blockchain and a day 1 mint. The collection leverages its unique refund mechanics as a "Wolf Game"-style game theory experience and has over $500K in sales to date.

Here's how it works. (1)

Mint a PIGGYBOMB NFT. There are four power levels, each with a different price in ETH. No matter which you mint, all your ETH gets refunded when you burn ("explode") your NFT minus the extra 5% mint fee you paid upfront, so the cost to play the game is minimal.

When you blow up a PIGGYBOMB, you get all its deposited ETH back. You can blow it up whenever you want through a burn function in the contract or a button on the website. The team will never be able to turn off the explode-refund feature nor will we have access to the deposited funds.

The game is deciding WHEN to blow it up.

The game will run through May (exact time dependent on when Blast announces its token airdrop).

Once the game starts you have two options.

First Option. Keep your bomb unexploded until the game ends. By doing this you will get a guaranteed allocation of $BLAST Gold points. 73% of the prize pool is reserved for holders.

The amount you get will depend on: (1) how many people kept their bomb unexploded until the end, (2) how powerful your piggybomb is, and (3) how long since the bomb was minted (there's no penalty for transferring wallets).

In addition to the $BLAST, at the end of the game all unexploded piggybombs will receive another benefit that will be announced then.

Players can still explode their pig and get the deposited ETH back even after the game ends. So a viable strategy is to mint, hold, get your $BLAST, and then explode for your ETH back.

Second Option. Explode your bomb during the game.

If you choose to explode your piggybomb during the game, your success will depend on a mystery snapshot.

After the game ends, we will use Chainlink VRF to retroactively and randomly select a day/time and take a snapshot then. No one, including us, will know when the snapshot will land and the reveal will be public and auditable.

If your bomb exploded AFTER the snapshot, you get no $BLAST Gold allocation. You "lose" but since you get your ETH back, you're not too rekt.

However, if your bomb exploded BEFORE the snapshot, you will get an allocation of $BLAST rewards reserved for the exploded. 23% of the prize pool is for exploders.

The amount of your allocation will depend on: (1) How close your piggybomb exploded to the snapshot, (2) How powerful the bomb was, (3) How many others exploded before the snapshot, and (4) How long since the bomb was minted.

Important note: explosion rewards are distributed on a diminishing curve. This means for example the top-25 exploders get drastically more than the bottom-25 exploders.

A quick word on the game theory.

Holding is generally the safest choice and it pays to mint early and hold until the end. However, if everyone does this then the allocation gets diluted down significantly so exploding becomes the more profitable strategy. Still, you're guaranteed a reward.

Timing the explosion is tricky because no one knows when the snapshot will be. It's safer to explode early since it helps ensure you beat the snapshot but if everyone explodes early and the snapshot happens late those who waited and risked more get a far higher prize.

The size of bomb you mint matters too. Big bombs yield more than small bombs so you can diversify with a lot of small bombs or take a bigger risk with a big bomb. It also pays to mint early since the amount of time since mint factors into both holding and exploding.

(5) The game has a team component as well. Pledge your Pigs to a Guild on the website. Once you pledge you cannot change. Every Guild has a captain in Discord who was selected by their communities. The captains play a separate Prisoner's Dilemma game against each other. For example, they can try to steal from each other or make peace.

Guilds whose captains perform best receive a bonus allocation of Blast Gold. How the Guild Game works is outlined in Discord in the FAQ section. (6)

PIGS GET BLASTED is just the first step in a much bigger vision. While season 1 is incentivized through Blast Gold, future seasons will be incentivized through an in-game economy. (7)
